Garden Projects

Rooted in the beauty of botanical collections and garden estates, these illustrations bloom across textiles and ceramics.

For this collaboration with the Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens Museum Shop, Maizie created an original illustrated silk scarf inspired by the estate’s lush gardens, architectural details, and historic landscape.

The artwork was designed as a visual journey through the Hillwood grounds, weaving together botanical elements, garden pathways, and iconic features of the estate into a collectible wearable piece. Drawing from the richness of Marjorie Merriweather Post’s world, the scarf captures both the elegance and serenity that define the Hillwood experience.

The final design balances fine illustrative detail with fluid textile composition, allowing each vignette to transition seamlessly across the fabric. Floral motifs were carefully selected to reflect the seasonal beauty of the gardens while maintaining a timeless, sophisticated aesthetic appropriate for the museum shop audience.

For the Lightner Museum, Maizie developed a collection of illustrated products inspired by the museum’s historic grounds, architecture, and lush botanical surroundings. The artwork celebrates the atmosphere and elegance of one of St. Augustine’s most iconic landmarks while translating the experience of the museum into collectible pieces for visitors and patrons. Drawing from the beauty of the Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture alongside the flora found throughout the property, the illustrations were designed to evoke both the romance and history of the space.

The collection features hand-drawn botanical elements paired with architectural references that capture the character of the museum and its grounds. Through a refined illustrative approach, the artwork balances historical influence with a contemporary aesthetic suited for modern museum retail.

By transforming the Lightner experience into wearable and collectible designs, the project created a meaningful connection between art, place, and storytelling — allowing visitors to take home a piece inspired by the beauty and atmosphere of the museum.

For The Hermitage, Maizie created a full illustrated collection inspired by the historic estate’s expansive grounds, gardens, and iconic architecture. The artwork was designed to celebrate the beauty, history, and agricultural legacy of one of Tennessee’s most significant historic sites while translating the visitor experience into collectible pieces for museum guests.

The project sought to capture the contrast between cultivated beauty and the working rhythms of the farm — honoring the property’s long-standing connection to agriculture, nature, and preservation. Through an elegant illustrative approach, the collection balances historical storytelling with contemporary design, creating pieces that feel timeless, refined, and deeply rooted in place.

By transforming the grounds and architecture into wearable and collectible artwork, the collection offers visitors a meaningful way to remember and connect with the experience of The Hermitage.

For the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Maizie created an original illustrated silk scarf designed as a collectible fundraising piece celebrating Louisville’s historic Olmsted-designed parks and parkways. The project transformed the natural beauty and cultural significance of the park system into a wearable work of art, blending storytelling, conservation, and illustration into a single heirloom object.

Each illustrated element was carefully researched and selected to create a layered visual narrative. Botanical motifs and references were woven throughout the design to evoke the biodiversity found across the parks, while scenic moments captured the character and atmosphere unique to the Olmsted system. The resulting artwork balances detail and elegance, inviting viewers to continually discover new elements within the composition.

For Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, Maizie created a custom illustrated map alongside an original illustration of the historic Mansion, capturing the elegance, discovery, and immersive beauty of one of Nashville’s most beloved cultural landmarks.

The project was designed to visually celebrate the experience of wandering through Cheekwood’s expansive gardens, woodland trails, sculpture installations, and historic estate grounds.

Cheekwood’s unique combination of art, nature, and historic preservation served as the foundation for the project’s creative direction. The final illustrations function as both interpretive tools and collectible artworks that deepen visitors’ connection to the estate.

For Liberty Hall Historic Site, Maizie created an original illustrated collection inspired by the property’s historic homes, formal gardens, and surrounding landscape. The artwork was designed to reflect the elegance and charm of the site while celebrating the rich architectural and botanical character that defines the Liberty Hall experience.

Centered around Liberty Hall and the Orlando Brown House, the collection incorporates hand-drawn architectural details alongside illustrations inspired by the four acres of lawns and gardens surrounding the estate. Botanical motifs, scenic elements, and ornamental details were thoughtfully woven throughout the artwork to create a visual narrative rooted in history, place, and landscape.
