Historic House Projects

Inspired by the architecture and stories of historic homes, these collections feature my original illustrations; each piece celebrates architectural detail and heritage with a modern, artful touch.

Historic Hudson Valley preserves and interprets some of the region's most significant cultural landmarks, connecting visitors with the stories, architecture, and landscapes that shaped American history.

Maizie created a series of custom illustrations for two of Historic Hudson Valley's most iconic sites: Washington Irving's Sunnyside and Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate. The illustrations were developed to support visitor engagement and bring each property's unique history to life through approachable, visually rich storytelling.

Liberty Hall is a historic site featuring two preserved historic properties and a planned garden space. To support the site’s storytelling and visitor experience, I created a cohesive collection of illustrated merchandise that celebrates Liberty Hall’s architecture, landscape, and sense of place.

The final suite included a silk scarf featuring the historic properties and surrounding grounds, along with coordinating tea towels and ceramic items designed to extend the visual identity into everyday objects.

The Westcott House is a Frank Lloyd Wright–designed home and grounds, known for its architectural significance and carefully maintained landscape. To support the site’s retail and donor initiatives, I created a signature illustrated piece designed to serve as a standout item in the gift shop and a memorable gift for board members and supporters.

The composition features the Westcott House alongside key elements of the property experience—including a vintage Westcott car, the surrounding garden areas, and seasonal urn plantings—capturing the site’s character in a way that feels both historic and personal.

The Gamble House is an internationally recognized masterpiece of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Built for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company, it remains the most complete and original example of the work of architects Charles and Henry Greene.

To support the museum’s retail offerings, Maizie created a signature illustration of the front façade of the home, designed to anchor a full collection of gift shop products. The resulting suite captures the warmth, craftsmanship, and architectural detail that make The Gamble House such an enduring landmark.

The Gamble House wanted a cohesive product collection that reflected the home’s legacy and appealed to visitors who value design, history, and craftsmanship. The illustration needed to feel timeless and collectible—an item worthy of the Greene brothers’ work—while also translating cleanly across multiple product formats.

The Hermitage is the preserved home of Andrew Jackson and a historic site where visitors explore the life and legacy of one of America’s most complex presidents. Beyond the mansion, the property spans 1,120 acres of gardens, trails, and historic spaces—including areas that interpret the lives and experiences of the hundreds of enslaved men, women, and children who lived and labored there.

To support visitor engagement and retail storytelling, Maizie created an illustrated map collection that highlights key areas across the grounds. The artwork was designed to work both as a comprehensive overview and as a flexible system that could be broken into multiple product designs—allowing different parts of the site to be featured individually.
